The Avid Bruxist Fixes Her Stitches, Part the Eighth, or The Whiskers Doctrine

Hello, smoochies! Your fashion-challenged Avid Bruxist is back with another Fix (see Parts 1, 2, 34, 56, and 7), and SHE NEEDS YOUR HELP! Read on.

Good news/progress–I am accessorizing more these days. But when I saw this, I was unsure:

Who you gonna call? KAAAAAAAAAATE!

She told me to try it on with something I’d wear it with. Uh…

What do you guys think? Yes or no?

Then we had this little number:

My take:

Kate’s take was slightly more emphatic: “A lumberjack’s worth of no.”

I like blazers in theory, but rarely in practice, and this one:

Meh.

Plus, I’d have to get it altered, and I don’t like it enough to make that investment.

This shirt was very silky and comfy but had a heinous embroidery and lace combo about the neck and shoulders:

Kate said she couldn’t see the design in the picture, so I took a close-up:

I was like, “Ugly, right?”

See? It’s important to consult experts.

Then came the jeans (which I’d have to have hemmed, natch). I knew Kate would be anti-, because of the whiskers, but they were comfy, so I asked if there was anything else offensive about them:

Macie Bootcut Jean

She said they flared. I told her they were boot cut. She said, “Boot cut works if you’re wearing cowboy boots… Are you Marco Rubio?!”

I continued, “BUT I NEED JEANS.” Stomp stomp stomp.

Then she made me question my whole fayshun edjucayshun:

And I told her I wasn’t sure of anything anymore, that she had indoctrinated me against whiskers. She said they’re “no one’s friend” but that feeling good in something is more important than rules.

Is it though?! I need rules to cling to!

Vote, my lovers! Keep necklace? Keep jeans?

Also, use this link to try Stitch Fix for yourself because if you do that, they’ll give me a $25 credit, and I’ll keep posting these silly blogs about it. (I don’t get no monies for posting. No opinions have been swayed by monies.)

Stay tuned for future Fixes!

  1. I vote yes for the necklace. The jeans are iffy. They are cute and look comfy, but too long. However, I’m with Kate. If you like them, and they make you happy – then go for it!

  2. Amy, you are totally answering your own question–no to everything. If you don’t see yourself wearing the necklace, why buy it? There is so much beautiful stuff in the world–why settle. It would be different if it was a gift from someone, then it at least would be infused with their love, but that is not the case–you have to buy it! And if the only reason to keep the jeans is “I need jeans” and not “I need THESE jeans”–send them back! Jeans shopping is admittedly hard work, but don’t waste your money on something that you’re lukewarm on at best. You’ll still need jeans that you love (or at least like), and just feel guilty to wear those because you have them.

  3. I just bought jeans with whiskers. I too dislike whiskers and had a staunch no-whiskers rule. But the flattering to the ass and hips and higher than not high rise convinced me. Just this morning my husband complimented me in/on these very jeans. So, sometimes, whiskers are a yes. And the fit and comfort level of these jeans is an overall high. I have found that, for ladies with hips and other curves in that area, denim is a higher priced item than to be found at the Gap. MOTHER jeans are the absolute best for women with curves. Something about the placement of their back pockets. It’s incredible! These whisker jeans are not MOTHER jeans. They are Paige Denim? New to me. But working! It might be nice to just try on some of the high end demin just to get a feel for the cut and softness and stretch and all that. Then you can decide. Also you will only need 1-2 pairs of these denims. And they last forever. Unless you change size. Which happened to me. But I digress. This response is long enough already.

  4. The necklace is cute but if you aren’t sure what to wear it with, I would pass. Also, sticky baby hands will yank that thing and you will be sad you spent so much $ on it when the beads fly across the room!
The jeans are ok but look big on you? Flared is making a comeback! I will be in style again!
