Woe

Man, this is hard.

I cleaned out my cabinet and gave all the products containing wheat to my sister. (Except my last box of Thin Mints. I just can’t do it.) And I’m doing my best to take gluten-free lunches to school and cook just meat and vegetables for dinner.

But god, all our work meetings are lousy with Goldfish and pretzels. On Friday, I read the label and found out the delicious blue crab dip that my sister procures from Costco…has bread crumbs in it. And today, at my book club brunch, the table was decorated tantalizingly with muffins (my coffee was so lonely!) and pesto French bread and whatnot. I just ate some of the vegetables & dip and salad. I also scooped myself some orzo, not realizing until an hour later when I was all groggy that that was pasta. (Maybe I was imagining it was rice pilaf?)

I’m grumpy. I’m trying to sell my house, and I don’t want to go to work tomorrow, and I just want to be able to eat a bagel like a normal person.

Wah! Listen to all my First World problems!

  1. gluten free and loving it. call me if you want support or advice. not so hard once you get used to it. the rewards (health, energy, maintainable weight, no gas)
    are soooo worth it. really.
so many great gluten free products out there.

  2. http://www.samisbakery.com/

Margo orders from here. The pizza crust is phenomenal, they make good rolls that she uses for sandwiches (I think they also make regular wheat-free bread, but she prefers the rolls) etc etc.

Also while in Richmond we found a great Ethiopian restaurant and the owner told us about the grain called “Teff” which is used to make their bread (like pita, but thinner, like a crepe). Apparently a family in Idaho grows most of the commercial Teff in the US. Fabulous stuff. It’s non-gluten.

So hang in there! Sami’s has a brownie tray that I bought Margo in lieu of a b-day cake, and she LOVED it. Scrumptious!!!

  3. also, if you can tolerate oats-my favorite is millit rice cereal. if not, mesa sunrise. there is now a natura foods rice chex that has cinnemon on one side. sinful it is.
all avail. at healthfood store or a decent krogers or martins in yournearby big town.
