So much walking.<\/p>\n<p>If my two get a walk three days in a row, we can often skip the fourth. Not so with &#8216;Nita. That&#8217;s the difference between 4 to 6 years old and under 2 years old.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I once again guilt myself into leaving her loose in the spare bedroom for the hour I&#8217;ll be at the gym. She yanks down the curtain and rod while I&#8217;m gone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My dogs are in; &#8216;Nita&#8217;s out. Like the nun in <em>Madeline<\/em>, I get a feeling that <strong>something is not right<\/strong>. I go out to investigate, and &#8216;Nita&#8217;s not in the yard. I run back inside, equip myself, and go scouting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/avidbruxist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Bonita-Neighbor-Dogs-HI.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6263\" alt=\"Bonita Neighbor Dogs HI\" src=\"http:\/\/avidbruxist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Bonita-Neighbor-Dogs-HI.jpg\" width=\"423\" height=\"249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avidbruxist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Bonita-Neighbor-Dogs-HI.jpg 423w, https:\/\/avidbruxist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Bonita-Neighbor-Dogs-HI-300x176.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 423px) 100vw, 423px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 4<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Nita trots outside at 6:00am and goes batshit about a person walking by. I try to teach her about inside vs. outside voice etiquette.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6264\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6264\" style=\"width: 430px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/avidbruxist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Bonita-Inside-Voice-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6264\" alt=\"Bonita Inside Voice 2\" src=\"http:\/\/avidbruxist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Bonita-Inside-Voice-2.png\" width=\"430\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/avidbruxist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Bonita-Inside-Voice-2.png 430w, https:\/\/avidbruxist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Bonita-Inside-Voice-2-300x156.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6264\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I&#8217;m not sure I got through to her.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After the long neighborhood loop, I put Violet inside, keep &#8216;Nita on the leash, and let Redford loose. My boy does five goofy laps around the shed (&#8216;Nita&#8217;s <em>dying<\/em> to join him)\u00a0and then stands on the porch. I stalk around the yard with &#8216;Nita, encouraging Redford to come closer. He&#8217;s not interested.<\/p>\n<p>I put him inside and let Violet out, but she won&#8217;t come within 20 feet of me and &#8216;Nita.<\/p>\n<p>I tether &#8216;Nita to the fence, put Violet on the leash and attempt to do some walk-bys. Violet&#8217;s OK on the first couple but tenses up pretty quick. The fur on the top of her butt stands on end, and she keeps looking askance at &#8216;Nita.<\/p>\n<p>I switch out Redford for Violet, and he does great! Walks by about six times and then stands near her while I pet both of them.<\/p>\n<p>Progress!<\/p>\n<p>A little bit of progress.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While we&#8217;re on our walk, I pledge to do more walk-bys once we get home. Instead, I sit on the couch and watch about ten episodes of\u00a0<em>30 Rock<\/em>. She&#8217;s so dramatic.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Day 6<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>More walk-bys after our walk! Redford&#8217;s fine but uninterested. Violet plants herself and won&#8217;t go near. Sigh.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Nita and I head to Cary for her photoshoot&#8230; It does not go well because SQUIRRELS and DUCKS and BICYCLLLLLLLLLLLLES. She&#8217;s pretty much bananas the whole time and nearly tears my arms out of their sockets. The photographer gets <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/media\/set\/?set=a.329736583809670.75827.323884201061575&amp;type=1\">a few good shots<\/a> though.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6265\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6265\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/avidbruxist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Me-Nita.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6265\" alt=\"Me &amp; 'Nita\" src=\"http:\/\/avidbruxist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/Me-Nita-e1359904204953.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"489\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6265\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Note the sure-we-can-call-it-a-hug-if-you-want to keep her from taking down an innocent cyclist.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Day 7<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Up to this point, &#8216;Nita has still resisted the crate. Not as vehemently as before, but when I tell her to get in, she&#8217;ll jump on the couch and wag wag wag and slither toward one end, like if she didn&#8217;t Cute me into forgetting what I was doing, maybe she could make herself slip through the couch cushions and hide.
