{"id":571,"date":"2010-01-26T21:12:28","date_gmt":"2010-01-27T02:12:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/avidbruxist.com\/blog\/?p=571"},"modified":"2010-07-05T09:10:49","modified_gmt":"2010-07-05T13:10:49","slug":"new-feature-ask-the-avid-bruxist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/avidbruxist.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/26\/new-feature-ask-the-avid-bruxist\/","title":{"rendered":"New Feature:  Ask the Avid Bruxist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Reader Rachel asks<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Today I\u2019m consumed with the question: even though it\u2019s so staged, corny and shameless that it causes me actual physical pain, why do I keep watching The Bachelor?<\/p>\n<p><em>The Avid Bruxist answers<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If I had TV*, I would watch it because doesn&#8217;t a size-2 girl with straight, white teeth and shiny hair&#8212;a person with no cellulite whatsoever&#8212;get <strong>rejected<\/strong> each episode?\u00a0 Good stuff.<\/p>\n<address>*I don&#8217;t have TV.\u00a0 I mean, I have a TV <strong><em>set<\/em><\/strong> and DVD player that my friend Angie lent me when she moved temporarily to Spain, and I NetFlix the hell out of some shows, but I don&#8217;t get, y&#8217;know, <em>channels<\/em>.\u00a0 Somebody told me recently that I could just connect my computer to my TV set and, voila, programs!\u00a0 Here&#8217;s why I&#8217;m NOT going to do that:\u00a0 I grew up without TV.\u00a0 I came from parents who thought TV rotted the mind.\u00a0\u00a0 And my folks were right, of course, but the complete prohibition of it creates TV JUNKIES.\u00a0 Exhibit A: there was a time in my childhood when the gods sent HBO(?!) to our 13-inch, black and white TV, and my siblings and I absolutely gorged ourselves on &#8220;Fletch&#8221; and &#8220;The Legend of Billie Jean&#8221; when my parents weren&#8217;t around.\u00a0 We must have watched each of those movies 25 times.\u00a0 (I can go note-for-note with Pat Benatar on &#8216;Invincible&#8217;.)\u00a0 To this day, I have no governor on my TV consumption.\u00a0 If I were to have unlimited programming, I&#8217;d probably be watching a rerun of Maury when Mr. Povich and his gang showed up to film the episode &#8220;It&#8217;s Official&#8230;I&#8217;ve Grown into My Couch&#8221;.<br \/>\n<\/address>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reader Rachel asks Today I\u2019m consumed with the question: even though it\u2019s so staged, corny and shameless that it causes me actual physical pain, why do I keep watching The Bachelor?
